Carrie Underwood has not been having an easy time lately. After a frightening fall that required over 50 stitches and a skin graft, the former ‘American Idol’ competitor did her best to stay out of the spotlight and kept herself hidden. Now the talented singer is likely going to stay in hiding, as news of her impending divorce has hit the stands.

After 8 years together, Carrie and her hockey player hubby Mike Fisher have decided to end their marriage.

"She and Mike love each other, but like any couple they’ve had challenges,” a source close to the couple revealed. “So much so that at times, Carrie has been at the breaking point.”

Insiders are claiming that it’s the couple’s hectic schedules that drove them apart, and the fact that they rarely see each other as well.

"Just by the very nature of their jobs, Carrie is gone on long concert tours and Mike was away playing for the team a lot." the source said.

It’s only a been a few days since news of their split broke, but Mike is already breaking his silence on the situation.

The NHL star took to Instagram to share one of his “favorite” quotes as a “daily reminder”. The quote is extremely telling.

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Some Instagram users commented that they, too, have turned to the Psalm quote during difficult times. It’s clear that Mike is going through a pretty tough time right now as well.

It appears that Carrie is the one who wants to end the marriage, as she not only is eager for another child, but feels that she hasn’t spent enough quality time with her husband over the past 7 years. It looks like the Grammy award winner has had enough.

“Carrie has wanted more quality time with Mike. They’ve only been on a couple of vacations together in the seven years they’ve been married,” the source said. “Carrie’s been desperate to have a little brother or sister for Isaiah. But she’s been struggling to get pregnant. She was hoping Mike would become more involved in the process of possible IVF treatments, if it came to that… Mike isn’t always cognizant of Carrie’s feelings and needs.”

As of right now, Carrie has stayed quiet about the split.
